About the American Shotokan Karate Alliance

The American Shotokan Karate Alliance, LLC (ASKA) is a communications network that offers administrative structure and technical guidance to students and instructors of Shotokan-style karate-do. These services are offered in the U.S. through the national offices of ASKA and internationally through membership in the International Karate Society (IKS). All ASKA black belt rankings and technical qualifications are internationally registered and recognized by the member nations of the IKS.

The cornerstone of ASKA philosophy is the belief that individual karate clubs must be independent in the conduct of their business. With this in mind, the ASKA does not impose arbitrary assessments against its members, and it places no restrictions on its members regarding their participation or membership in other organizations. Indeed, the ASKA encourages its members to communicate with and participate in the activities of other karate organizations.

The Purpose of the ASKA Dojo

  • To provide karate training facilities for like-minded people who recognize the basic dignity of the individual members.
  • To establish closer human relationships through karate training, based on friendly and mutual respect.
  • To seek and provide opportunities for individual and social growth through the study and practice of karate-do.
  • To seek and provide opportunities for karate technical growth.
  • To maintain the high technical standards of Shotokan karate-do.
  • To aspire to raise the quality of life and value of each individual member.
  • To uphold the high ideals of Shotokan karate-do as set forth by the father of modern karate-do, Master Gichin Funakoshi.
